These ladies, Yangathu, Waltjingyarr and Dhuwalkitjpuy are sisters, although the middle one is from a different clan.  They connect to each other through the ancestral songs of the shark and dolphins.

Djutarra Girls, 2014

These girls call themselves after a female spirit who lives in their homeland and cries for the bones of her ancestors.  The background colours are djapana, the colour of our sorrow.  When you see the sunset anywhere in the world it connects us back to our land.  And you can feel it.   It touches your heart, because of the colour Garrumarra.  And the stars represent our mari (mother’s mother), Djurrpun Wirdiwu, that first morning star.
